What Technology Does Jennifer Use?
Jennifer™ is the first voice directed distribution center application built from the ground up to run on industry-standard mobile computers and RF terminals, and to easily work with custom or packaged warehouse management systems (WMS). Our software is built in a service-oriented architecture (SOA) using open software standards, providing flexibility, ease-of-integration, and a lower total cost of ownership than previous generations of voice systems.
Mobile Computer
Jennifer runs on a wider variety of mobile computers than
any other voice technology solution today. You can choose devices from leading
providers such as Motorola® (Symbol®), Intermec™, or LXE™, and we also have many years of experience with Voxware™ and Vocollect® systems.
Lucas has delivered more voice applications on a wider range of voice-enabled mobile industrial computers than anyone.
Jennifer speech recognition and voice technology runs on the Microsoft® Windows® operating system delivered on your mobile computer. Whenever appropriate, our solutions can be extended and enhanced to take advantage of the additional features of your mobile computers, such as the scanner, camera, touch screen, touchpad, keypad, memory card, RFID or Bluetooth support. This functionality can be integrated seamlessly into the voice-directed work processes to maximize the efficiency of your operations team.
Voice Technology
Lucas adds best-of-breed voice recognition technology to the mobile computer to allow a real-time conversation to occur between Jennifer and the warehouse associate in the language of your choice. We use digitized speech technology to translate information coming from your warehouse management system or other back-end system, making Jennifer the friendliest voice in the industry. Jennifer is comprehensible at higher speeds than text-to-speech solutions and we provide hands-free controls that allow users to adjust the speed on the fly. Lucas also provides text-to-speech capabilities in every Jennifer solution, so every possible exception is covered.
Service-Oriented Archtiecture
Jennifer is built in a service-oriented architecture providing maximum flexibility and ease of integration, today and in the future. Each Jennifer solution is assembled using our library of standard software building blocks (business services or components) that are designed and tested for rapid modification and reuse.
This modular approach gives us the flexibility to deliver applications that incorporate the customer-specific business rules and application logic needed to optimize operations without the cost and risk of customizing a package or of developing a custom application. Our service-oriented architecture, configurable core technology, and flexible software building blocks allow us to quickly assemble a warehouse logistics solution that provides you with the capabilities you need without forcing you to change your processes or systems, or to rely on a proprietary development toolkit.
Labor and Process Management
Jennifer runs on your mobile computer and communicates in real time directly to your warehouse management system (WMS) or to a Jennifer voice application server. The Jennifer server-based solution includes a powerful, Web-accessible Management Services Console, Engage, with configurable user, assignment, route, and task management capabilities, as well as real-time productivity and management reports that can be tailored to your exact requirements.
The Engage Management Console is a smart/rich internet application giving mangers real-time insight into operations on the warehouse floor, including process status, associate productivity, shorts, and exceptions. And by incorporating the latest in Web technology, we give managers the ability to configure and change how they view information, resulting in a more flexible, productive, and easy-to-use system than first-generation Web applications.
Integration with Existing Processes
Jennifer can work hand-in-hand with your existing warehouse management, labor management, transportation management and other systems, so there’s no need to change or upgrade your WMS to get the advantages of voice. We always strive to take advantage of the processes and systems you already have in place to get Jennifer up and running quickly. Jennifer can extend and enhance your existing RF-based process, and she can use the same files your host systems create to generate pick labels, if that’s the best solution for your business. The choice is always yours, based on what is the best approach to meet your operational needs.
